For the first time, a Houthi ballistic missile has reportedly breached Israel's defences and reached Tel Aviv.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said the group launched a new hypersonic ballistic missile that travelled 2,040 km (1,270 miles) in just eleven and a half minutes against Israel.

The Israeli government has said that there were no injuries in the attack.

The missile reportedly fell in an open area, and Israel's military later said it had probably fragmented in the air.

It is also claimed that pieces had landed in fields and near a railway station.

The incident is thought to be the first time a surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen has reached Israel.

Watch: Has Israel used its Iron Beam defence system for the first time?

Israel’s Iron Dome systems have reportedly been responsible for more than 2,500 threats being intercepted, resulting in a 90% success rate since 2011.

However, the air defence systems were unable to prevent the ballistic missile from reaching Israel.

The Houthi group has launched numerous aerial attacks against Israel, however, only one is reported to have hit one of their territories near the Red Sea port of Eilat in March.

Israeli forces have waged a campaign against Hamas in response to the group's unprecedented attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, resulting in the death of 1,200 people and 251 others being taken hostage.

Since the conflict began, over 41,110 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.
