British Forces Cyprus Records First Coronavirus Cases Since May

British Forces Cyprus has recorded its first confirmed cases of coronavirus since May.

There are two new cases of the virus at RAF Akrotiri - the first was reported on Sunday, with the second earlier today. 

Both individuals who tested positive are in self-isolation, displaying mild symptoms, with full contact tracing now taking place.

These latest cases bring the total number of positive tests within the British bases in Cyprus to 14.

British Forces Cyprus says it continues to align with the Republic of Cyprus in responding to the virus.

Since the first reported case of COVID-19 in January, Cyprus has had 22 deaths and 1,847 cases in total.

Cyprus is home to two British Sovereign Base Areas which together cover 98 square miles.

British troops are also part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the country.
