The Royal Navy has confirmed "a number of personnel" from HMS Richmond have tested positive for COVID-19.

A Navy spokesperson said those who have tested positive are "ashore and are under medical supervision".

"The remaining crew are following appropriate guidelines while the Royal Navy continues to manage the situation," the spokesperson added.

The announcement comes amid a rise in UK coronavirus cases, with new measures being brought in across the country to try and combat the spread of the disease.

Earlier this month, a number of HMS Albion's crew members tested positive for coronavirus.

Prior to that, HMS Queen Elizabeth's deployment from Portsmouth was delayed due to COVID-19 cases on board.
