Britons currently stuck on a quarantined cruise ship in Japan will land at a Ministry of Defence (MOD) base on their return to the UK.

MOD Boscombe Down, near Salisbury in Wiltshire, will welcome around 70 Britons in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The people, who have all tested negative for coronavirus, are due to fly back to the UK from Tokyo on Friday.

The Diamond Princess cruise ship has seen more than 620 cases of coronavirus, including at least four Britons, and is the largest cluster of cases outside China.

The vessel has been quarantined near Yokohama, Japan.

Any Briton confirmed with the virus will stay in Japan for treatment.

Passengers brought back to the UK on Friday’s evacuation flight will be taken to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral for 14 days of quarantine.
