Could Soldiers Speed Across Battlefield On "Star Wars" Hoverbikes?
The US military could see its troops travelling across the battlefield like the Jedi Knights and stormtroopers of the Star Wars films - thanks to a UK-based company.
Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, Boyd Rutherford, announced at the recent Paris Air Show that British-based Malloy Aeronautics will work alongside another US defense firm to develop hoverbike technology for the US military.

The work is part of an ongoing research and development contract with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory - the country's premier laboratory for land forces.
It's hoped the US Army will eventually be able to perform manned flights using the hoverbikes, which will be used as a new class of Tactical Reconnaissance Vehicle (TRV).
Malloy Aeronautics, meanwhile, will now open a US office in Maryland to continue their work.
"The Hoverbike... represents a new frontier in aviation," said Lieutenant Governor Rutherford.
"We are very excited to welcome Malloy and look forward to working with them to grow their operations in Maryland."
Meanwhile Chris Malloy, managing director of Malloy Aeronautics, described the Hoverbike as:
"A revolution in aviation, designed to do what a helicopter does, but cost less and do so better."
