Medics Prepare For South Sudan Deployment

Troops from 33 Field Hospital have spent a week working with mock-up patients, as part of their final preparations before joining a UN mission to South Sudan.

Make-up artists have been recreating various health issues - including infectious diseases and accidents - as examples of the kind of cases medics could face when they arrive in the country.

A replica of the field hospital where the medics will be working in South Sudan was built inside a hanger at the Army Medical Services Training Centre in York.

Around 80 servicemen and women – both regulars and reservists - will be on five days notice to deploy.

The UK will be supplying nearly 400 troops to the UN peacekeeping mission in the northeastern African country.
