Military personnel receive ambulance training in Wales

Military personnel have been undergoing training at Maindy Barracks in Cardiff to drive ambulances for the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust (WAST).

A total of 100 service members from across the Royal Navy, British Army and RAF have gone through the training and are now working alongside fully trained paramedics and technicians.

They will continue to work with the medical professionals until the end of November.

The deployment follows a Military Aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA) request from WAST, as part of efforts to free up emergency responders under strain due to the pandemic.

The military personnel will not be doing blue light driving but will be driving patients around in a non-emergency capacity.
