MoD Pays Compensation After Asbestos-Related Cancer Death

Ministry of Defence sign

The Ministry of Defence have paid compensation after a woman died from cancer relating to exposure to asbestos.

Susan Maughan was 63-years-old when she died from mesothelioma three years ago.

Ms Maughan was present when a fire took place in 1983 at COD Donington Army depot in Shropshire.

The fire produced ash which contained asbestos.

An MOD spokesperson said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Susan Maughan.

"When compensation claims are received they are considered on the basis of whether or not the MOD has a legal liability to pay.

"Where there is proven legal liability, compensation is paid."
