Premier League Football Clubs Hold Commemorations Ahead Of Remembrance Day

A number of Premier League football clubs held Remembrance tributes at their home games at the weekend.

With away games planned for next weekend, the one closest to the official Remembrance Day, teams such as Manchester City, Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth paid their respects on Saturday and Sunday.

A minute’s silence was held before all Premier League matches on Matchweek 11 and will also be completed at next week’s top division games.

At AFC Bournemouth’s match with Manchester United, the captains of both teams carried floral wreaths on to the field pre-match which was collected by military personnel and placed in the centre circle at the Vitality Stadium.

Members of the Royal Signals were also flag-bearers of the match.

Before Aston Villa’s contest with Liverpool, there was a fun-zone activity with the Armed Forces at Villa Park.

Ten military personnel were also welcomed on to the pitch by both sets of players in a guard of honour while ProjectB6 had a special flag display organised.

A poppy banner adjourned the centre circle at the Etihad Stadium where reigning champions Manchester City faced Southampton.

The poem, 'Ode to Remembrance', was read out by City’s club chaplain and after a rendition of The Last Post, the Manchester City Veteran’s team were welcomed on to the pitch.

An auction of match-worn shirts has been taking place to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Fourteen shirts worn by Crystal Palace players in their 2-0 defeat to Leicester City are currently being auctioned.
