Prince Harry Pays Tribute To British Soldier Killed In Malawi

The Duke of Sussex has paid tribute to the life of Guardsman Mathew Talbot - a British soldier killed in Malawi during counter-poaching operations in May.

Prince Harry laid a wreath at a memorial site for Gdsm Talbot in Liwonde National Park and also met serving British soldiers.

The Duke has made the visit as part of a tour of southern Africa.

Twenty-two-year-old Gdsm Talbot, of 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, was killed by an elephant while working as a counter-poaching operator while on patrol with local park rangers.

Malawi was his first operational deployment.

Later on Monday, Prince Harry is due to go to the Liwonde National Park Headquarters to receive a briefing on operations.

An anti-poaching demonstration exercise will also be conducted jointly by local rangers and the British military forces deployed to Malawi on Operation CORDED.

Prince Harry is expected to conclude his visit to Malawi by dedicating Liwonde National Park and the adjoining Mangochi Forest to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, joining Chimaliro Forest, which was dedicated by The Duke of Gloucester in 2018.
