RAF Scampton Hosts Sneak Peak Ahead Of Airshow

RAF Scampton has hosted a preview day to give its eager audience a sneaky peek at what to expect at next month’s air show.

Organisers say they have a huge amount planned, as this is the very first air show to be hosted at the home of the Red Arrows in Lincolnshire.

The site has a long and impressive history with the RAF. It was once the home of 617 Squadron, the Dambusters and the Vulcan.

Organisers are keen that the show reflects the rich aviation history of the area, therefore historic warbirds will feature alongside modern military jets.

This morning, former rugby international and ambassador for the air show Rory Underwood arrived in spectacular fashion, with the RAF's premier display team.

Unfortunately, due to weather conditions the other planes due to attend the preview had to pull out.

Red Arrows

For the years the Red Arrows have been a staple of air shows across the UK and even the world, however, this is the first time that they've ever performed at an air show at their home base.

Proceeds for the show will help support the work of the RAF charitable trust, specifically aiding their Junior ranks scholarship scheme.

This encourages young people to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and maths. Many of the schemes recruited have been promoted and commissioned into the Royal Air Force.

The air show will also feature a whole Techno area which all host a vast range of free fun STEM activities to hopefully inspire then minds of the next generation.

RAF Scampton will open its doors for real on September 9 & 10th.
