RAF Typhoons Scrambled Twice In Two Days To Intercept Russian Military Aircraft

Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets have been scrambled twice in two days to intercept Russian military aircraft.

The RAF Typhoons were scrambled from Amari Air Base on Monday and Tuesday, from where they operate as part of Operation Azotize in Estonia.

The Typhoons intercepted a Russian Tupolev TU-134 'Crusty' transport aircraft flying close to Estonian airspace.

This is a routine NATO mission for the Typhoons, which provides reassurance that the UK is here to work in partnership with Estonia.

This is the sixteenth Quick Reaction Alert scramble and intercepts for the RAF since it took over enhanced Air Policing from the German Air Force on 3 May 2019 as part of NATO's Baltic Air Policing.
