This year's Royal Navy International Air Day has been cancelled due to the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was scheduled to take place at RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset, on 10 July.

In a statement, organisers said Government policy on large outdoor gatherings and the "risks associated with hosting a large-scale international event in July is too significant for all parties involved".

The annual airshow is the Royal Navy’s flagship public event, welcoming more than 35,000 visitors from across the UK and aviation enthusiasts from around the world.

Aircraft from allied nations also take part in the show.

Organisers said they hope to welcome people back in 2022.

Last year’s air show was also cancelled due to the pandemic but was marked online.

The ‘Air Day – Rewind!’ live stream allowed audiences to watch some of the best displays from the past 20 years. It included performances from Sea Hawks, Sea Harriers, Sea Kings and F-35 Lightning jets.
