More than 400 Sea Cadets have marked the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar with a parade in London.

The Massed band of the Sea Cadet Corps led the procession from Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall, down the Mall and under Admiralty Arch to Trafalgar Square.

Hundreds of invited guests and members of the public gathered around to watch the annual event

At the battle, which took place on October 21, Admiral Lord Nelson famously defeated the French and Spanish fleets of Cape Trafalgar in South West Spain, losing his own life in the battle.

On Trafalgar day, celebrations are held across the country in honour of his life and victory, most notably on warship HMS Victory and in London's Trafalgar Square.

Captain Phillip Russell, Captain Sea Cadets, spoke of the significance of the day:

"Obviously being a maritime nation, it's a key event in our maritime history and Sea Cadets are proud to be part of it"

Wreaths were laid at the base of Nelson's Column in honour of his life and achievements.
