Trump Denies Forgetting Killed Soldier's Name

US President Donald Trump has denied forgetting the name of a soldier killed in Niger, when making a phone call to the American serviceman's family.

Mr Trump defended his conversation with Myeshia Johnson - widow of Sgt La David Johnson - describing it as "respectful".

Mrs Johnson told Good Morning America that the President "couldn't remember my husband's name".

She added: "The only way he could remember my husband's name was he told me he had my husband's report in front of him, and that's when he actually said 'La David'."

Mr Trump took to Twitter to respond to Mrs Johnson's allegation:

Last week, Mr Trump was criticised for comments made during his phone call to Mrs Johnson.

She told Good Morning America:

"The President said that 'he knew what he signed up for, but it hurts anyway'.

"It made me cry because I was very angry at the tone of his voice and how he said it."

Sgt La David Johnson and three fellow US Green Berets died on October 4 following an attack in south-west Niger.

He was buried at a service in Florida on Saturday.
