On 2 April 1982, Argentina took control of the Falkland Islands, marking the first time in decades that a British Foreign Territory had been invaded by a foreign counterpart.

A 74-day war ensued resulting in the loss of 255 British Armed Forces personnel and three Islanders.

Over the course of fewer than three months, British Forces recaptured the islands in what global defence analysts often refer to as "a military impossibility".

Tributes from across the military and forces world are being paid to Falklands veterans, their families and all those who lost their lives.
