Former Royal Marine on how his men seized Mount Harriet in daring Falklands raid
Nick Vaux was the Commanding Officer of 42 Commando during Britain's successful recapture of the Falkland Islands in 1982.
It was his Royal Marines who took part in the recapture of South Georgia and later went on to seize Mount Harriet during a daring and successful assault.
Mr Vaux devised a successful plan to attack the unsuspecting enemy from the rear. Its capture proved vital to overall British success in the land war.
Before their attack, on 11 June, British guns launched a ferocious bombardment on enemy positions.
Mr Vaux told Forces News: "Once the attack on Mount Harriet got going, I actually felt sorry for those Argentinians.
"I mean, the amount of fire that was coming down was devastating and demonstrated why we took so many prisoners so easily.
"You could see a lot of them. They were young and they were absolutely demoralised, terrified."
