Army veteran Brian Wood is running several of his marathon challenges in the Falkland Islands.

The veteran is once again taking on the mammoth marathon-a-day challenge to honour fallen comrades and hopes to raise a total of £250,000

The author of 'Double Crossed', who was awarded the Military Cross for his service in Iraq, ran a minimum of 26 miles per day for 25 days last year to remember British personnel who died in Iraq and Afghanistan – raising more than £168,000 for charity.

His challenge started on 2 October 2022 with the London Marathon, and the former soldier will run a total of 35 marathons, over 35 days, to commemorate the increasing number of lives lost in conflict.

The veteran will run a total of 917 miles for the British lives lost in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Each day he will be running with 26 new names on his shirt, with each mile representing a life lost.

The additional 0.2 miles over 35 days is dedicated to the late HM Queen Elizabeth II as a "thank you for her service to our great nation".

Mr Wood flew to the Falkland Islands on Wednesday to "commemorate those who never made it home".

He said on Twitter: "This was an opportunity of a lifetime and very fitting being the 40th anniversary."

Currently, the veteran has raised more than £175,000, approximately 70% of his £250,000 goal. His fundraising link is here.
