40,000 US Army Soldiers To Lose Jobs By 2017
The US Army plans to cut 40,000 soldiers from its ranks over the next two years to save money at home and abroad.
Under the plan the US Army would have 450,000 soldiers by the end of the 2017 budget year.
As well as the soldiers, 17,000 civilians working for the Army will also be laid off.
Analyst Benjamin Friedman from the Cato Institute thinks the money saved should be spent elsewhere in the American defence budget.
"... it probably makes sense to shift some of the funds into the United States Navy and focus on a more offshore approach"
