5 RIFLES Families Celebrate Salamanca Day

The Battle of Salamanca in Spain in 1812 is said to be one of the Duke of Wellington’s finest victories during the Napoleonic Wars against France.

As present day successors of soldiers who fought with Wellington, 5th Battalion the Rifles marked the battle’s anniversary last month in Afghanistan.

5 RIFLES families are only celebrating Salamanca Day today at the unit’s Paderborn base in Germany from where Rob Olver reports.
