Army Prepares To Leave More German Bases

A warning - the above report contains flash photography.

The Army is preparing to leave more bases in Germany, as British troops withdraw to the UK.

Javelin Barracks, the signals and intelligence base at Elmpt, near the Dutch border, is about to close and has now held its last official function.

A final gathering has honoured long-serving civilians who’ve supported the military community.

Meanwhile, a Royal Signals unit that has only ever existed in Germany is about to move to the UK.

628 Signal Troop is part of an unusual international formation called 1st NATO Signal Battalion.

But that link isn't about to end, and will continue from a base at Blandford in Dorset.
