The Battle of Arnhem Remembered

Veterans marked the anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem at the weekend as schoolchildren laid flowers on the graves of those who died there. Geoff Meade was at the ceremony and spoke to the Veterans about their experiences. 

 

70 years ago this week British Paras from the 1st Airborne Division dropped on to Ginkel Heath, north west of Arnhem in Holland, charged with capturing bridges and key routes through the Netherlands to prevent the German advance.

 

 

Paratroopers from across the world completed jumps in commemoration of the heroism displayed by troops during the Battle of Arnhem.

 

 

Soldiers from 16 Air Assault Brigade joined veterans, Dutch civilians and airborne troops from across the world to mark the 70th anniversary of a Second World War operation that defined the character of the British Army's airborne forces.
