British Soldier "Travels to Middle East to Fight IS"

A serving British soldier is believed to have travelled to the Middle East to fight against Islamic State.

The Ministry of Defence says it is investigating the reports.

The 19-year-old infantryman, who is not being named, is said to have told his family that he would be joining the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in their battle against extremists in Iraq and Syria because "these guys need our help".

The MoD also confirmed that the soldier is currently on leave and hasn't gone AWOL.
