Veterans gain insight of military driver training and Army in 2025 at DST event

The Defence School of Transport (DST) has welcomed 80 military veterans to reconnect at a dedicated event in East Yorkshire.
The veterans met with serving military working at the DST, as well as former personnel, and also had the opportunity to learn about how military transport training and the British Army operate today.
The visitors were offered lunch courtesy of East Riding of Yorkshire Council and had the chance to discuss the vehicles on display with specialist instructors.

"We were honoured to host so many veterans and provide a space where they could connect, share experiences, and learn more about the modern Army," said Garrison Sergeant Major Hickey, from the DST.

"Supporting our veteran community is incredibly important, and we hope this event reinforced the ongoing bond between past and present service members."
Lynn Watson, a veteran of the DST, attended the event.
"After retiring in 2018, it was fascinating to see the modern Army's new and improved changes," she said.
Most importantly, I was really impressed by how knowledgeable and passionate the instructors were about all the vehicles and equipment on display."

The DST is the largest residential driving school in the world.
Military personnel learn how to drive a range of vehicles, from Land Rovers to heavy lorries, armoured vehicles and quad bikes on more than 100 different courses.
Troops also have the chance to take advanced driving skills training courses and learn how to drive emergency vehicles.
