Police say they are "very concerned" for the safety of a soldier who has not been seen for more than a fortnight.

Lance Corporal Ryan Rudd, 28, of 1st Battalion, The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, was last seen in the early hours of 15 February, having been on a night out with friends in Selby, North Yorkshire, on Valentine's Day.

North Yorkshire Police, who have launched an urgent appeal to help find the missing soldier, say Ryan failed to return home or for duty, and has since been "out of contact with family, friends, and colleagues".

"We are very concerned for his safety," North Yorkshire Police said.

Ryan is described as white, around 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with dark brown hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt, blue hoodie and black trousers when he was last seen.

In response to our request for an update on the search, North Yorkshire Police said: "Ryan is still missing and extensive enquiries are ongoing to find him."

Police were made aware of Ryan’s disappearance on 1 March, two weeks after he was last seen. The report was made to North Yorkshire Police by a member of the Armed Forces.

Police urge anyone with information to contact them by dialling 101 and quoting the reference number 12260037725.

An Army spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Lance Corporal Ryan Rudd was reported missing to North Yorkshire Police on 1 March 2026.

"An investigation is underway and we are working with North Yorkshire Police who are leading this. We are unable to offer further detail at this time.

"The Army are supporting LCpl Rudd's family."
