Hartlepool Remembers Fatal 1914 German Raid
A century ago this week, over 130 civilians and military personnel were killed and almost 600 were wounded when German warships fired more than 1,000 shells on Hartlepool.
It was the first time a soldier had died on British soil since the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
Laura Hawkins reports from Hartlepool’s Headland, where the town remembered the events at a memorial service on Tuesday.
