He'll get there in the end: Mercians' new mascot proves a bit of a challenge
Private Derby XXXIII is only a year old but is being trained for an important job - to act as the Mercian Regiment's official mascot.
His training involves him being walked on a lead by the Ram Major, Corporal Philip Thornton, who has been training the regiment's rams for more than a decade.
However, Pte Derby is not taking to his official duties quite as well as the Mercians had hoped.
As the Ram Major explained: "He can have his good days, he can have his bad days.
"We had a bit of incident the other day on his very first parade where he dragged the ram orderly to the ground.
"Luckily no one was hurt and he actually continued with the job and did really, really well."

Cpl Thornton revealed how training a ram on a lead was not unlike training a dog.
"With dogs... they'll pull at first and they will finally get it - and I'm sure that's probably the same with Derby as well. He will get it in the end, he's just taking a bit more time than the others."
As well as being walked around Whittington Barracks, Pte Derby has been getting used to wearing his uniform as part of his training.
His special attire links back to Pte Derby I - the first mascot that took on the role in the 1800s.
Derby's role involves a lot of "meeting and greeting" members of the public - and when the soldiers are marching on parade Derby will be there at the front.
