NATO Extends Military Exercises Programme
NATO has agreed to extend its programme of big military exercises in Eastern Europe.
It will also create an interim version of it’s new “Spearhead” force in a show of military might to Russia.
Britain has committed more than 3,000 troops to training over the coming year and expects 1,000 personnel to join the Spearhead when it is fully formed in 12 months.
Foreign ministers, including Philip Hammond, are now in talks which should formally launch the alliance’s new Afghanistan operation when the combat mission ends on December 31.
James Hirst reports.
