Proud Day For The Royal Regiment of Scotland
More than 100 soldiers from the Royal Regiment of Scotland have received their first operational medal after recently returning from Afghanistan.
The 2 SCOTS Battlegroup were deployed to Kabul providing transport and security across the city.
The battlegroup was led by 2 SCOTS but also made up of soldiers from Balaklava Company 5 SCOTS and reservists from 6 SCOTS.
Between them these troops covered almost nine months in Kabul, supporting the enduring NATO mission there.
Their duties included the transport and security of those still assisting the Afghan National Security Forces. And it was a busy tour - 7,300 protection missions were carried out across the city.
For some on parade this was the third, even fourth time they had been to Afghanistan. But for the younger troops it was a chance to be recognised for their first experience of operations.
