HMS Pembroke Removes 500lb Bomb
Lying in wait since the Second World War, HMS Pembroke has dealt with a 500lb bomb in the North Sea.
As part of her NATO tasking the Faslane based minehunter has located and dealt with a number of unexploded mines, bombs and torpedoes in the North and Baltic Sea during her current tasking.
The large amount of Second World War ordnance has been a hazard in the busy shipping lanes for years but working with ships from Germany, Netherlands, Poland and Belgium, Pembroke is working to clear the waterways.
The Sandown-class ship is attached to NATO’s Mine Counter Measures Group 1 on Operation Beneficial Co-operation, a long-standing mission by European navies to deal with the detritus of conflict.
