The crew of HMS Prince of Wales has been putting the Royal Navy's biggest warship through its paces during its latest "power tests" at sea.

A video posted online shows the 65,000-tonne aircraft carrier's engines and propellors leaving a huge wake, creating crashing waves on the surface of the surrounding calm sea.

The ship's official account on X, the new name for social platform Twitter, said: "65 kilo tonnes of heavy metal makes calm seas rage...Power tests complete...More tomorrow..."

Heavy metal music accompanied the 36-second clip, featuring HMS Prince of Wales banking steeply left and right as the huge vessel cut through the surface of the water.

One Twitter user commented: "The @RoyalNavy's aircraft carrier @HMSPWLS giving her repaired propeller shafts & couplings a thorough workout," referring to the carrier recently moving out of dry dock, after nine months of repairs.
