HMS Tamar joins South Pacific nation of Vanuatu for Independence Day

HMS Tamar has visited Vanuatu, an 80-plus island archipelago, where the crew helped the South Pacific nation mark the 44th anniversary of its independence.
The Royal Navy offshore patrol vessel welcomed visitors aboard and carried out work helping the Ministry of Health in the village of Pango.
Vanuatu achieved its independence in 1990 after being jointly ruled by Britain and France, where it was known as the New Hebrides.
Posting on X, HMS Tamar said the crew were "honored to be part of Vanuatu's 44th Independence Day celebrations!" which they called "an unforgettable visit".
HMS Tamar and her sister ship HMS Spey are on a five-year deployment to the Indo-Pacific region.
In June HMS Tamar berthed alongside a US Navy submarine support ship in an experimental link-up which could see the Royal Navy vessel extend her operations.
The offshore patrol vessel used the USS Emory S Land not just as a floating quayside or jetty, but also 'plugged in' to the vessel's fuel, water and power supply.
