A Royal Navy Batch 2 River-class offshore patrol vessel has arrived in the British Virgin Islands to assist with recovery measures following Hurricane Ernesto.

HMS Trent has been deployed to the islands to help repair the damage caused by the storm.

The vessel and her crew were welcomed by Governor Daniel Pruce who also praised their efforts.

A message on the ship's official social media accounts read: "We're in the British Virgin Islands after Tropical Storm Ernesto.

"Our sailors, Royal Marines and 24 Commando Royal Engineers Crisis Response Troop have come together to assist with the recovery."

Pictures were shared online of the crew clearing affected areas and working with Mr Pruce who said how grateful he was for their assistance.

In July, HMS Trent assisted the Cayman Islands after Hurricane Beryl devastated many parts of the Caribbean.
