'Little Ships' Recreate Daring Dunkirk Rescue
Around 50 small boats involved in the evacuation of Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk during the Second World War have set sail to mark the 75th anniversary of the rescue.
The flotilla, including the smallest surviving boat of the 'little ships of Dunkirk' set off from Ramsgate harbour in Kent escorted by RNLI and Royal Navy vessels, and is heading to the French town for official commemorative events.
Nearly 340,000 troops were rescued during Operation Dynamo in 1940 as they retreated from Nazi Forces.
People in Ramsgate, meanwhile, also honoured the crews of the 'Little Ships' involved in the evacuation, with troops from the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment paying their own tribute in a march past.
It comes as unique and historically significant film footage of the rescue has been discovered at The University of Manchester Library.
