Royal Navy Officer Wins 'Woman of the Year' Title

A Royal Navy officer has been named 2015 Woman of the Year for her work in technology.

Lieutenant Commander Roxane Heaton, 33, from Lee-on-Solent, was picked over a number of hopefuls at the FDM everywoman in Technology Awards for her work in developing technology and digital content to support training and operations.

“It was amazing being in a room full of such inspirational women,” said Roxane. “I’d like to thank the FDM and everywoman and let the other finalists know what an honour it was standing alongside them."

“I'm proud to be part of the Royal Navy and a member of our Naval Servicewomen’s Network, where the benefits and the need for diversity and inclusion are paramount and where there are so many opportunities for women wishing to explore different areas and careers," she continued.

“It’s a really exciting time for technology. May it continue to drive more people to make big changes which benefit people, health, research and the economy here in the UK and across the globe.”
