The Vikings Are Coming!

Royal Marine Commandos are in the Mediterranean taking part in Exercise Cypriot Lion.

Among them are the men of 1 Armoured Support Group equipped with Viking all-terrain vehicles.

Simon Newton joined the Royal Marines as they put them to the test on the training area at RAF Akrotiri.

Did you know?

  • The Viking entered service with the Royal Marines in 2003.
  • As well as being deployed from amphibious landing craft it’s also small enough to fit inside a C-130 Hercules and C17 transport aircraft.
  • It can be split in two and slung beneath Chinook and Merlin helicopters.
  • If you thought your car was fast think again. The Viking has a 5.9 litre engine!
