Eyes in the sky: Inside the cockpit of an RAF Typhoon as it tears across the tundra
Spectacular cockpit footage captures an RAF Typhoon weaving through the rugged, desolate peaks of the High North.
Under Exercise Hillstream, Typhoons from IX(B) Squadron provided close air support to Royal Marines from 3 Commando Brigade during a simulated amphibious landing.
Operating out of Evenes Air Station in Northern Norway, the exercise simulated how air and ground components of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) could integrate in response to a real-world crisis.
Deployed from RAF Lossiemouth, the Typhoon jets demonstrated the ability of UK forces to operate at high readiness in Arctic conditions, ensuring that British forces can respond to emerging threats, humanitarian emergencies, or security challenges across the Euro-Atlantic area.
The exercise forms a component of Exercise Tarassis, a multinational, multimodal series of exercises designed to demonstrate allied cooperation from the Arctic Circle to the Baltic Sea.
The exercise is devised around real-world challenges, including protecting an airfield, patrolling a sea lane, and reinforcing a JEF nation.
The aim is to allow member nations to practise working together, helping to refine their ability to respond to a crisis and strengthening their ability to operate as a unified force.
