RAF Typhoon jets attack Houthi drone-production facilities based in Yemen

Royal Air Force Typhoons have carried out a number of strikes against Houthi drone-production facilities in Yemen.
The operation, which was carried out alongside US forces, saw a cluster of buildings targeted which are used by Houthis to make attack drones like those used to target ships in the Red Sea.
The RAF Typhoon FGR4s, with air refuelling support from Voyager tankers, attacked the buildings using their Paveway IV precision-guided bombs.
The strike was conducted after dark.
Overseas Typhoon squadrons are based in the Falklands, Poland, and Cyprus, and while the MOD has not confirmed where the jets flew from, it said all the aircraft returned to base safely.
It was the first strike carried out against the Houthis since Donald Trump was re-elected US President.
The Houthis have been targeting merchant and military ships since November 2023, claiming their actions are in response to Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza – an assertion dismissed by the UK.
Defence Secretary John Healey said the Government would "always act in the interests of our national and economic security".
"We conducted these strikes, supported by the US, to degrade Houthi capabilities and prevent further attacks against UK and international shipping," he said.
"This action was taken in response to a persistent threat from the Houthis to freedom of navigation.
"A 55% drop in shipping through the Red Sea has already cost billions, fuelling regional instability and risking economic security for families in the UK.
"The Government is steadfast in our commitment to reinforcing global stability and protecting British working people.
"I am proud of the dedication and professionalism shown by the service men and women involved in this operation."
Last year, the helicopter crew members from HMS Diamond faced down the Houthi missile threat to Red Sea shipping, and were singled out for their bravery as a result.
During a six-month mission, the Portsmouth-based destroyer came under repeated and sustained attacks, downing nine drones and a missile in the process.
