Remembering A Pilot And His Spitfire

More than 75 years ago a 20-year-old Spitfire pilot broke formation and entered a dive from which his aircraft never recovered.

Moments later, he and his fighter crashed into the ground.

Pilot Officer Harold Edwin Penketh had been new to the Spitfire, and was on a training flight in Cambridgeshire with two other 266 Squadron planes when he became separated from the formation and got into trouble.

His body was recovered, but the remains of the plane were left behind.
