Ex Wolf's Challenge Tests Reservists' Initiative

Army reservists from the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry were put through their paces this weekend in a race against the clock.

Exercise Wolf's Challenge was a test of their resourcefulness, as the soldiers were set a series of challenges.

E Squadron are one of 4 teams from the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry on a test of initiative around their recruiting area. First thing the Army's newest reserve unit were set 16 tasks to complete in just over 8 hours.

Tasks 1 and 9 involved community engagement so it was off to the local sheltered housing residence in Colinton for breakfast. A chance to take stock of what they had to do.

E Squadron's whirlwind tour of the central belt included Edinburgh Castle, finding a very expensive car, crashing the Scottish open Judo championships and getting their picture taken with a Commonwealth Games gold medalist.

This is perhaps a lesson in cheeky requests but the idea behind the exercise goes much deeper.

Eight and half hours later, 16 tasks and many press ups completed E Squadron, unfortunately, finished third behind winners B Squadron in Northern Ireland.

However, they're determined to make their comeback next year.
