British Army women dominant once again at Allianz Stadium with clear victory over Navy

The British Army women have begun their Inter Service title defence in style with a dominant 78-0 victory over the Royal Navy at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.

The Navy are once again searching for answers as they walk away with no points on the board of the second consecutive year.

The Army women began their game in style, with Fijian World Cup number 8 Manuqalo Komaitai and Inter Service debutante Jaye Ash both scoring two tries each in the opening 20 minutes.

The Army didn't have it all their way however, with Lauren Brooks having her try disallowed.

But moments later, Sophie Benavent put things right for the red team, powering over to score the Army’s fifth try of the match and Courtney Pursglove kicking over the conversion.

At the crunch of half time, Brooks reciprocated her disallowed try after dotting down under the posts, as the Army led 38-0 at the halfway stage.

The momentum at this point was well on the red team’s side, with both Komaitai and Ash both going over for hat tricks.

The Navy were still searching for answers and were fighting hard to defend against the red charge. They couldn’t hold off Lauren Brooks though, who once again went over under the posts.

The Army had absolute control over the game by this point, with further tries from Adiqalo and Dodd to put the red team out of the Navy’s sights.

At full time, the Army celebrated yet another dominant victory over the Senior Service, clocking an eye-watering 78-0 points to retain the Babcock trophy.

This result sets up what could be an exciting title decider when the Army face the Royal Air Force at Kingsholm Stadium on 16 May.
