The Moment That Made Me: Personnel share what shaped them in new podcast

From the Falklands to Afghanistan, from the frontline to civvy street or from recruitment to retirement, a life-defining moment can come at any point for military personnel.
In a new series from BFBS Forces News' Sitrep podcast team, The Moment That Made Me sees a number of guests, all whom have served their country in different capacities, asked the same question: what was the moment that made you?
The guests share the inspiring stories of the most pivotal points in their lives.
- Sitrep: Could 2025 be the year UK personnel have boots on the ground in Ukraine?
- Sitrep: Israel has no business in Syria amid opportunistic incursion into DMZ
- Sitrep: Will Syrian civil war revive ISIS and will Russia's involvement hurt them in Ukraine?
Some moments focus on grave danger or a massive challenge, while others are filled with joy and laughter.
But all of them offer insights that we can use for ourselves.
Guests include SAS soldiers and veterans of the Falklands and Afghanistan wars.
The series kicks off with Commander Tom Sharpe and his story (above).
On 16 December 2008, HMS Endurance suffered a sudden and catastrophic flood in the South Atlantic.
Cdr Sharpe was in temporary command of the Royal Navy icebreaker as her engine room filled in less than half an hour, and she lost power in turbulent seas.
