Prime Minister Pays Respects To US Military Dead

Theresa May has paid her respects to the military dead of the US.
Before her highly anticipated meeting with President Trump, the Prime Minister took time to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at the Arlington National Cemetery.
The bodies of unidentified US troops from the First and Second World Wars, as well as the Korean conflict, are held at the Virginia cemetery.
A cannon was fired 19 times as the Prime Minister’s convoy arrived at the memorial.
She was then greeted by troops from all military bases in Washington who were led by Major General Bradley Becker, Commander of Joint Force Headquarters in welcoming Mrs May.
During the laying of the poppy wreath a military band played the national anthems of both nations, before a single trumpeter sounded the Last Post.
British troops are buried among more than 400,000 US troops buried at the site.
The cemetery also contains a memorial to the victims of the Lockerbie terror attack and the grave of assassinated US president John F. Kennedy.
