Ridley Scott Leaves No Soldier Behind At 'The Martian' Premiere

Three soldiers discovered the true meaning of ‘you don’t ask, you don’t get’ when they took over from a Forces TV reporter at the premiere of Matt Damon’s new film 'The Martian'.

British Army Captain Gregg McLeod, 33, was showing the highlights of London to two U.S. soldiers on an exchange program, when they came across the movie's European premiere.

Captain McLeod decided his guests would rather enjoy watching the new flick, directed by Ridley Scott, so thought he would try his luck.

After ‘sweet-talking’ his way past security and into the media section he and his colleagues of the U.S. National Guard, Captain Nick DuPont, 33, and Sergeant Tyler Eissler, 29, bumped into Forces TV.

When they explained their mission: to get into the premiere and watch the film – Forces TV handed them the microphone to see if the stars on the red carpet could help with their quest.

The ‘commando-reporters’ had an unsuccessful start when they interviewed Jeff Daniels who was amused and gave the advice ‘Matt Damon is your man’. However it was not long until acclaimed director Ridley Scott made his way down the media line and Captain McLeod put the question to him ‘what are the chances of getting us into the film tonight’.

It was at this moment the soldiers’ quest was complete as Ridley Scott said to his assistants: ‘Get them in’.

But the soldiers-turned reporters’ work was not complete on the red carpet. Armed with a cameraman and a microphone they interviewed Bridesmaids’ Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor and then the main man himself Matt Damon.

The essential closing question the soldiers put to each of them? ‘Can we take you for a drink after the film’.
