Scrap Metal Soldier Sculpture Honours End Of WW1

A 6-metre statue has been unveiled of a World War I soldier in Dorset.

But it's not your average statue as this one is made entirely of scrap metal from forks to spanners and fridge parts as Rebecca Ricks has found out.

It's the work of two fabricators at Dorset Forge who spent three and a half months constructing the soldier using everything from chains to forks, car parts to ammo tins.

The steel structure was commissioned by a customer who at this stage has asked to remain anonymous though it's understood all will be revealed in due course.

It weighs in at 1.5 tonnes and has more than 1000 pieces of steel welded together to create the ghostly look the customer requested.

Garden shears, horseshoes and spanners just a handful of those scrap objects used for the statue – all sourced locally from scrap yards or brought in by local residents.
