The TV Show Helping A Veteran And His Family

It's an incredible project that aims to put a roof over the heads of wounded veterans.

It's been orchestrated by the BBC TV series DIY SOS, and has seen 25 run-down houses converted into new homes.

Now the team is returning to Canada Street in Manchester to convert the last house.

Forces TV was there and had the chance to speak to the soon-to-be new occupant, former Rifleman Simon Flores:
"It was my second tour of Iraq... we were coming back in [from a patrol] and [the enemy] must have been waiting for us. They set off [a bomb and] I lost my foot [from] the explosion... There's so many veterans out there that are needing help, but to be chosen is simply amazing".

DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles said that Flores is a "top lad" and simply wants a safe place to live with his three children:
"He's gone off and looked after us, got himself injured in the process - he's not looking for a handout, he's not looking for charity, he's not looking for sympathy. He just wants an opportunity [for somewhere to live]. Well, we can do that".
Meanwhile, North West operations manager Gary Lamb told Forces TV that the other veterans who have been helped by DIY SOS have already settled into the area and built up a sense of community there.
