They're two of the most critically-acclaimed war films of the last decade. Both took more than three times their budget at the box office, but their subject matter couldn't have been more different.

Quentin Tarantino's movie tells the fictional tale of a group of Jewish-American soldiers who plot to assassinate Nazi Germany's political leadership in World War Two, whilst Hurt Locker follows an American bomb disposal team in the Iraq War. But which film was more popular on Google?

The results were close. Despite having a budget of just under £50 million - five times that of Hurt Locker - Inglourious Basterds was only searched 60% more often.

And in terms of search results, the story is even closer. Hurt Locker brings up around 2.5 million results when seached on Google, while Inglourious Basterds shows just over 3.3m, an increase of just under a third.

For its part Hurt Locker was helped by its six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow, which seems to have caused a huge spike in March 2010, when the awards ceremony took place. It was described at the time as being the "lowest-grossing movie to ever win Best Picture" at the Academy Awards.

Christoph Waltz, meanwhile, who played Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance.
