Army And GB Boxer 'Felt Lost' After Olympics Postponement

Great Britain and British Army boxer Gunner Karriss Artingstall said she "felt lost" after the 2020 Olympic Games were postponed.

The military athlete was due to fight in an Olympic qualifier just a day after the postponement.

"I didn’t really know how to react at first," she told Forces News.

"It was a shock to the system and I don’t know if I did manage to take it in.

"I just felt lost and I didn’t know what to do with myself."

Despite the lockdown, Artingstall is still able to train and keep fit for her qualifiers whenever they are rescheduled.

She said: "Boxing bags have been sent out to us and everything has been supplied to us.

"The squad use Skype or FaceTime and we are all in it together. 

"It’s just the same thing that all the coaches are telling us, really - to try and stay focused and use this time to the best of our ability basically."

While she was hoping to box in Tokyo this summer, the Army athlete is turning her attention to next year's event.

"A day before I was due to box, it just got cancelled. It was there, within arm’s reach, and it got ripped from me.

"It is what it is. It’s out of our control and we just have to stay focused and keep ticking over...focus on 2021 when it comes again."
