Lucy Farrow scores twice as UKAF overcome resilient Irish to complete a successful 2025

The UK Armed Forces women's football team have stuck to their task to beat the Irish Defence Forces 2-0 in Dublin.

The Irish put in their best performance in the history of this fixture and looked to get a reward with a draw until Lucy Farrow scored twice in the final twenty minutes.

Karl Milgate's team were frustrated in large parts by the Irish Defence Forces' determination in defence, but trusted the process and managed to grind out the win.

The first half saw UKAF struggle to make an impact on the game despite dominating possession. In fact, it was the Irish who had the better opportunities.

Katie McCarn, who was a hidden gem in the Irish team, saw a long-range strike hit the bar before she later was denied by UKAF goalkeeper Jennifer Horrocks.

Harriet Wellings had UKAF's only real chance of the first period, but couldn't find the target after a well-worked UKAF move that included Farrow and Tara Parker.

After the break, RAF shotstopper Horrocks also pulled off a stunning fingertip save from Shannon Thomas as the home team kept knocking on the door.

Despite all the good work, it was Farrow who predictably provided the winning moments for UKAF. Megan Herbert can take a lot of credit with the assist as her well-crafted through ball undid the Irish defence, and Farrow expertly finished to give UKAF the lead.

Her second goal didn't come from a good UKAF move as two Irish players had a mix-up to gift Farrow the ball, but the RAF star was suitably lethal with the finish for a 2-0 lead.

The result will have pleased the UKAF management as it rubber-stamps an impressive year with wins over the Dutch, German and now Irish teams.
