A number of military football referees have been selected as part of officiating teams for tonight's Carabao Cup first-round ties.

Royal Navy referee Chief Petty Officer Scott Jackson will take charge of Barrow's home tie against Port Vale in his first fixture in the middle of the new season.

He worked as a fourth official at St James' Park on Sunday as Newcastle United beat French side Brest in their final pre-season friendly.

For the British Army, Captain Steve Finch will be assistant referee for Newport County's trip to Leyton Orient while Corporal Declan O'Shea will fill the same role as Championship side Swansea City look to avoid an upset at home to League 2 team Gillingham.

Elsewhere, Staff Sergeant Daniel Smith will be assistant referee as Shrewsbury Town host Notts County at Croud Meadow, the venue for the Royal Navy men's Inter Services triumph in March.
